In an effort to disseminate information and raise awareness about the dangers of Human Trafficking, KITA Institute, as the coordinator of the Anti-Human Trafficking Women's Group at the Zero Human Trafficking Network-MM (Mensen met een Missie), held a 2-day Journalism Training workshop on 2-3 August 2021. The event was held virtually and was attended by 8 institutions, namely the Forum Peduli Perempuan, Vivat International Indonesia, Talitha Kum Malang Raya, West Flores JPIC SSpS, JPIC SFGM, KITA Institute, MILAP, Talitha Kum Indonesia, and TRUK-F Maumere. These institutions are agencies engaged in the prevention and handling of human trafficking cases in Indonesia.
As a resource person in the journalistic training session, Rev. Agus Alfonsus Duka explained the basic elements of news, methods of finding and writing news that is insightful and sympathetic to victims of human trafficking, and news interview techniques.
Besides learning how to improve on writing news articles, the participants who attended this journalism training activity also practiced writing news that directly related to the anti-human trafficking activities that had been carried out in their respective institutions.
In addition, Rev. Agus also said that anything that violates a person's humanity also degrades human dignity, including the crime of Human Trafficking, which is a crime against humanity we must work to eradicate.
Eka Munfarida Irfiani, as the Director of the KITA Institute, hopes that this journalistic training can be useful for MM partner institutions that work in the field of Anti-Human Trafficking and can help spread their activities to a wider audience. This MM partner institution has long engaged in the issue of Anti-Human Trafficking. Hopefully, this journalistic training will help MM partner institutions disseminate what has been done so far to the public. "Our hope is that more and more people will know about (the dangers of) Human Trafficking, so that our goal for Zero Human Trafficking won't just be a pipe dream," she concluded.
