To commemorate the World Anti-Human Trafficking Day on 30 July 2021, IOM (International Organization for Migration) collaborated with the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia (MoWEaCP) to carry out a virtual talk show with the theme, “Improving the Synergy of Integrated Services to Protect and Fulfill the Rights of Victims and Witnesses of Human Trafficking”. Notable attendees include but are not limited to: Ibu Bintang Puspayoga, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (MoWEaCP); Theodora Suter, Deputy Chief Of Mission, IOM Indonesia; five resource persons from Government Institutions and one NGO (Non-Governmental Organization); Harry Hikmat, Director General of Social Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Social Affairs; Femi Kartika Eka Putri, Deputy for Women, Youth and Children at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs; Margareth Robin Korwa, Assistant Deputy for Services for Women Victims of Violence, MoWEaCP; Gita Agnestasia, National project Officer from the Counter-Trafficking and Labor Migration Unit, IOM Indonesia; and Sr. Fransiska Imakulata, SSpS, TRUK-F Maumere volunteer. This grand event was moderated by Fatma Ayu, the 2017 Miss Indonesia. The number of participants who attended this talk show reached 307 people, from all parts of Indonesia.

In addition to being part of a series of activities to commemorate the World Anti-Human Trafficking Day, the talk show, entitled "Improving the Synergy of Integrated Services to Protect and Fulfill the Rights of Victims and Witnesses of Human Trafficking" is also a means of publicizing the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection's initiative, with the support of IOM Indonesia, to revise the Standard Operating Procedures for Integrated Services for Witnesses and Victims of Human Trafficking. This revision is necessary in order to update the service approach and make it easier for victims to access the recovery facilities provided by the government and the community.

The Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Bintang Puspayoga, in her official opening speech, expressed her appreciation and hope for humanitarian fighters: “I express my highest appreciation and commendation to the government, NGOs, Law Enforcement Officials, and every humanitarian fighter who has taken part in working tirelessly to eradicate human trafficking. Our (humanitarian) work has not ended; human trafficking is still happening and still affecting vulnerable groups, especially women and children. So let us continue to work together and synergize to eradicate human trafficking. Let us join hands and work to improve services for those who are victims (of human trafficking crimes).”Theodora Suter expressed similar sentiments. As Deputy Chief Of Mission, IOM Indonesia, she also expressed her deep concern about the rampant human trafficking cases that continue to occur, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic: "Our presence and support is a very important thing; we must stand beside the victims to give them strength to rise from the suffering that befell them."

Fatma Ayu, as the moderator of the talk show, presented an opportunity for each resource person to provide information and find points of agreement and goodwill from the government and the community in their efforts to combat human trafficking. The Ministry of Social Affairs, represented by Harry Hikmat, said, “the government, in this case, the Ministry of Social Affairs, will maximize rehabilitation services at the central and regional levels, because currently, Indonesia has 41 rehabilitation houses. We're focusing on NTT, NTB, and West Java because a lot of the victims (of HT) are from those areas.” Meanwhile, the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, represented by Margareth Robin Korwa, said, "MoWEaCP has opened the SAPA 129 hotline service, which is available 24/7 for all Indonesians." SAPA stands for Sahabat Perempuan dan Anak (Frienddss of Women and Children). This act of good faith is backed by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, who will be the Leading Sector in the Establishment of the Gugus Tugas Pencegahan dan Penanganan Pemberantasan Tindak Pidana Perdagangan Orang (SATGAS GTPPPTPPO) (lit: Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of the Eradication of Human Trafficking) at the Central level, and will be spread to other regions. The words conveyed by these policymakers gave hope to the community, as hoped by Sr. Fransiska Imakulata, SSpS, representative of TRUK-F Maumere. Sr. Ika hopes that rehabilitation and law enforcement efforts for victims of human trafficking will be increased in order to reduce the number of victims of human trafficking and not create opportunities for victims to become further or repeatedly victimized.
