“Jika Engkau Ingin membangun sebuah bangsa, maka mulailah dari kaum perempuannya” (lit: “if you want to build a nation, start with its women”), was a quote from the main resource person, Ms. Sri Wahyuningsih, SH., M.Pd in the webinar, "Building a Culture of Respect for Women", which was held by the Malangraya Talitha Kum Network on March 8, 2021. Furthermore, Bu Wahyu said that statistically, a large number of victims of violence and abuse in Indonesia are women and children; this is a warning and a note for all parties on how vulnerable women are to crimes against humanity. This vulnerability is also due to the patriarchal culture that has been passed down from generation to generation, which places women in a vulnerable position. In addition, this same culture has given way to a misleading doctrine in the world of the entertainment industry that determines women as mere objects. The existence of women in the context of patriarchal culture shackles their very existence and hinders women's involvement in many aspects of life.

The two-hour webinar was attended by people of various groups and professions, including lecturers, students, activists, and legal officials from all cities in Indonesia. The second speaker in the webinar was Mardi Setianingsih, SH., who led the sharing session, and inspired and motivated online participants by sharing her own life experiences. It was hoped that participants were able to reflect on their own life experiences at the end discussion.

This webinar was held to commemorate International Women's Day, which falls on March 8, and was motivated by Talitha Kum Malangraya's mission as a non-governmental organization that focuses on efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of human trafficking. Therefore, the importance of efforts to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality and respect for women is also Talitha Kum Malangraya's concern. (Avianti/Talitha Kum Malangraya)
