Died 18 AKAD Workers’ Families Cry Hysterically in Welcoming the Corpses

18 corpses of AKAD workers from Eat Nusa Tenggara were returned on Tuesday (14/05) from Manokwari, West Papua. These 18 AKAD workers died because their truck crushed on the Arfak Mountain in Minyambouw District after mining gold in West Papua on Wednesday (13/05) in the early morning. The truck was dragged up to 6 meters after crushing cliff. There were 34 passengers on the truck. 29 passengers died and injured (toddles and women). 13 passengers died in the location/scene and one passenger was trapped. The truck brought 103 logs, 16 millimeter of wire mesh, 1 unit blue Yamaha Jupiter motorcycle and 1 chainsaw.

The traffic director of the West Papua Police Papua Barat, Kombes Pol Raydian Kakrosono reported that there were several causes of the accident. Brake Failure, overloading, damaged road and the truck’s condition that is not proper to be driven. All the victims were immediately evacuated to the Manokwari local hospital and to the Warmere Pratama hospital.

The unfortunate accident got intention from Dominggus Mandacan, the Governor of West Papua. He said this accident was the biggest accident. He visited the hospitals to show his sympathy or condolences to the families accompanied by head of the Health Service office, Otto Parorongan. Furthermore, 18 corpses of the workers from East Nusa Tenggara were immediately brought to their hometown by a plane. Those corpses arrived at El Tari Kupang Airport at 11.24 Indonesian Central Time or WITA and were greeted hysterically by the families. It is know that the corpses were non-procedural gold mining workers in West Papua. They were who provided their families’ needs in East Nusa Tenggara. Nevertheless, the families received compensation from the companies of IDR 10 million.

Sedangkan untuk jenazah pekerja AKAD yang berasal dari Sikka akan langsung diberangkatkan dengan pesawat menuju Maumere.

The vice governor of NTT, Josef Nae Soi and parliament chairman of NTT came to the airport in receiving the 18 corpses. 16 corpses would be brought to Belu and Malacca, 1 to Amarasi, 1 to Kupang Regency and one to Sikka Regency.

Josef Nae Soi stated his condolence to the families. He said that the accident was a sorrow of the entire NTT community. The corpses were brought to their hometown after being prayed along with the families.
