Increasing Capacity, the Big Family of Indonesian Migrant Workers Holds Following-up Training for Counselors

The big family of Indonesian Migrant Workers or keluarga besar buruh migran Indonesia (KABAR BUMI) held increasing capacity for counselors of the KABARBUMI on Friday to Sunday (10-12 June 2022) at Sindoro Hotel, Cilacap, Central Java. The training was the following-up training of the first Paralegal training that had held in previous time. This training was participated by 38 participants from several regions in Central Java and West Java.

The training held as a mandate that is stated in the constitution that states KABARBUMI is an advocacy organization, campaign and services. The participants were given explanations about organization, migration, and how to handle and assist to the cases. The participants were trying to increase their capacity in publication and story telling in the training. Furthermore, the participants were divided and invited to do story telling of cases. story telling. Kemudian peserta diminta untuk melakukan story telling kasus yang dibagi secara berkelompok.

“The KABARBUMI does not only handle and assist to the migrant workers’ cases but also make various efforts to prevent the criminal act of human trafficking or tindak pidana perdagangan orang (TPPO) in society of various background and ages. Moreover, Cilacap is the regency with the highest number of TPPO cases and also, Cilacap is the largest sender of migrant worker in Central Java. The KABARBUMI often holds socialization to high school students as well. Moreover, to increase their enthusiasm in socializing TPPO, the KABARBUMI elect an Anti-TPPO Ambassador. Chief of KABARBUMI, Karsiwen explained in his speech.

This training cannot be success without supporting from Mensen Met Een Missie, the church institution that supports social working especially human trafficking/TPPO. There are several institutions supported by Mensen Me Een Missie that focus on preventing TPPO, then, incorporated into a network that is called the Zero Trafficking Network. This network is expected to minimize TPPO to zero cases.

The training was expected to increase the KABARBUMI’s counselors’ capacity in handling and assisting migrant workers’ cases. The participants are still connected on the WhatsApp group after the training. They are expected to be able to share their experiences in handling and assisting migrant workers’ cases sharing They are able to share by telling stories or phenomena about the cases that have been handled or assisted or asking if they have problem in handling and assisting to the cases. Besides, there would be some capacity building for counselors that would be conducted online or offline.. (Jannah)
