The Big Family of Indonesian Migrant Workers Educates People Regarding Case of Indonesian Migrant Workers’ Documents Detention

The big family of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KABARBUMI) held an online discussion entitled “Understanding Document Detention Policy of Indonesian Migrant Workers” on Tuesday (12/07/2022). This event was held online via Zoom Meeting and Live on Facebook. The participants who joined in the event were 20 participants.

The case of document detention to the Indonesian migrant workers occurs until this day. One of the triggering factors is that the government policies are not in workers’ favor. Meanwhile, there are still very few people and institutions care about the Indonesian Migrant Workers’ cases so that the KABARBUMI initiated this discussion. The discussion aimed to make people aware and understand to the issues of Indonesian Migrant Workers.

Satria D. Pambudi was the speaker in the discussion. He is an advocate of the Wahana Legal Aid. He explained about the Indonesian Migrant Workers’ regulation and the implementation. Wiwin Warsiating from Advocacy and Services Department of the KABARBUMI was the moderator of the discussion. The participants were very active in the discussion by asking questions and giving additions.

The KABARBUMI hopes the more people will understand about the Indonesian Migrant Workers’ issues and the regulations. The issues about Indonesian migrant workers in an iceberg issue. There are many cases of workers but very few are known by the public. The Indonesian migrant workers’ issues are the serious issues so they need much attention from all the parties. (Jannah)
