Being a Victim of Human Trafficking in Turkey, Vira Writes a Public Letter to President Jokowi

Vira, who works as a spa therapist in Turkey, wrote a public letter to Indonesian President Joko Widodo with a copy of Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

Vira wrote to the President in order to ask the president to send her back to her hometown in Bali. In her letter, she also wrote her story of being worker in Turkey and her experience of being victim of sexual exploitation.

She explained that she worked more than 8 hours a day in Lonicera Hotel. She also having trouble to get day off and she got low salary. The salary was different from what was written in the contract.

When Vira asked the agent in Bali about the salary, she did not get solution. Mrs. Gung as the agent asked Vira to stay and continue her work even though she did not get her right as written in the contract and even when she was sick.

. Therefore, she run away from the hotel and looked for another job. She hoped the new job would be better

She moved for working about 4 times and unfortunately she got sexual harassment from her client in her third workplace

She reported it to her boss but her boss ignored her report. Vira got better treatment in her fourth job but her health condition is worse.

She wrote about her condition in the letter. She vomited blood on July 18, 2022 and could not walk because she had problem with her stomach and lungs

She really hoped that there would be compassion from the Indonesian President to send her back to Bali. The Bali Manpower Office and the BP3MI continue to coordinate with the BP2MI Bali, the Ministry of Foreign Affair and the Indonesian representative in Turkey in trying to send Vira back to bali.
